The traditional encounter between Richmond College, Galle and St. Servatius’ College, Matara of the U19 Inter Schools Cricket Tournament, ended in a draw today (09th December) at Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara.
Having won the toss, Richmond College Skipper Tharinda Nirmal invited the opposition to take the first lease of the wicket, and managed to restrict them to 200 runs in 65.2 overs. Servatius’ No. 3 batter Diniru Abeywickramasinghe top-scored with a brisk 68 runs off 68 balls, with a four and 4 sixes.
Sri Lanka U19 cap Malsha Tharupathi was the star performer with the ball for Richmond College as he picked up 5 wickets for 79 runs.

In reply, the star-studded Richmond College batting lineup struggled and were bowled out for just 137 runs, handing first innings honors to St. Servatius College. The Skipper Nirmal was the only significant contributor with the bat for the boys from Galle as he made 43 runs.
Meanwhile, two Tier ‘A’ two-day encounters (St. Anthony’s College, Kandy vs Nalanda College, Colombo and Wesley College, Colombo vs D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo) ended in no results due to the prevailing weather conditions in the island.
