The second and third weeks of November saw the completion of 5 matches in the Singer U19 Division II Cricket tournament 2019/20. Interestingly, 3 games produced results while all 5 were tournament matches.

Henegama Central College started off the second week of November with a comfortable 10-wicket win against Asoka Vidyalaya Colombo in Kirindiwela. Samith Wijenayake’s all-round efforts stood out while Tharindu Sandaruwan’s unbeaten half-century in the first innings steadied their batting. Rahul Chandrasekara shone with a 6-wicket haul despite his team being in the receiving end.

In the last Division II match before the Presidential Polls, Lyceum International School Wattala dismantled Dudley Senanayake Central College Tholangamuwa in Godagamuwa. The boys from Wattala took control of the game on day 1 itself as they amassed a massive 301/9 with the help of four 40+ scores which included two half-centuries from Vishal Perera and Hansaja Bandara. They then bundled out the hosts twice within 59.3 overs to win the game by a huge margin of an innings and 124 runs. Duleepa Geethanjana was the star with the ball for Lyceum bagging a total of 7 wickets in both innings.

Kingswood College hosted Negombo St. Peter’s in Gampola to resume the tournament after the polls. Despite a modest first innings by the home team, they were pushed behind by a brilliant century from Brian Julian who steered his team to a first innings score of 300. Julian then picked up 3 wickets to help St. Peter’s bowl out Kingswood for 145 and set themselves a target of 37. Unfortunately they had just 2 overs to score these 37 runs and ended up losing a wicket for 15 runs. Dineth Sathsara starred for the visitors with the ball claiming 7 wickets while Mahasen Ranasinghe was the star performer for Kingswood.

St. Mary’s College Kegalle, who was demoted from Division I last year, hosted Sri Sumangala College Panadura in their arch rival Kegalu Vidyalaya’s grounds. The Panadura boys who missed the promotion last year after losing to Royal College in the Semi Final displayed their fire-power steamrolling the Marians by a big margin of an innings and 69 runs. They sent the St. Mary’s bowlers on a leather hunt as they scored 325 runs in just 39.4 overs with an exhilarating run-rate of 8+. Mihiranga Fernando’s century and half-centuries from Charuka Jayathilaka and Tharana De Silva were the highlights of their entertaining batting effort. Mihiranga also bagged 9 wickets along with Anuka Jayasingha who also claimed 9 wickets. Kushan Banuka’s batting efforts was the only positive for the home team for whom nothing went their way except for the toss.
