Cambrians, Anandians, Zahirians and Maristonians proceed to quarterfinals

The Annites visit to Moratuwa was cut short with some spectacular bowling by the Cambrians in the Singer Division one pre-quarter final playoff.

Prince Fernando and Suwath Mendis together with some assistance from Kaumal Nanayakkara ripped through the Annite innings within the space of 33 overs. Kavindu Ekanayake top scored with 22 whilst the rest of the batting card gave the scorers an easy day at the office.

The Cambrians reached the score in19 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Tharindu Amarasinghe did the bulk of the scoring but was dismissed for 30 by Mayas Musammil.

Back at Ananda Mawatha, D.S Senanayake played Ananda College which proved to be a nail bitting finish as Ananda College’s nerves of steel helped them cross over the line in the penultimate over.

Batting first Ananda College posted a commendable 252 for the loss of 8 wickets in their allocated fifty overs.  Kalana Wijesiri and Sudeepa Angulugaha’s fifty helped the Anandian cause thanks to some valuable contributions in the middle order. Wijesiri top scored with 61 whilst Angulugaha posted a prized 54. In the bowling department Methushan Kumaara picked up 3 wickets for 52 while Pasindu Adithya chipped in with 2 doe 37.

Chasing a target of 252 the dons were in a predicament at 77 for the loss of 4 wickets with Amitha Dabare holding the innings in the middle. Dabare went on to a magnificent 130 to take D.S Senanayake College close to the finish line. The Anandian bowlers put up a gritty performance in the final stages of the match to pull off a famous 9 run victory.

Joes and Petes through to limited over Quarter finals


The Maradana neighbourhood hosted another pre-quarterfinal clash between Wesley College and Zahira College at the Zahira grounds. A delayed start reduced the match to 49 overs per side.

Batting first the Zahirians looked in top notch posting an impressive 279 led by a prolific 95 by Mohommed Shamas. Dilsara Shaminda posted a valiant 62 to help Zahira’s cause. Movin Subasinghe picked up 3 wickets for 58 for the Wesleyites.

The boys from Campbell Park did not look in the best of form with the best struggling at 25 for the loss 2 early on. The batting woes continue for Wesley College as they were bowled out for 151 inside 39 overs. Shenal Gangalla top scored with 42 whilst Imtiyaz Slasa picked up 3 wickets for 24 runs.

Cambrians and Sebastian-ites ready for the big battle


The final pre-quarterfinal was worked off at Katuneriya between Maris Stella College and St Aloysius College Galle.

Batting first the Maristonians posted a commendable 177 before they were bowled out in the 45th over. Pasindu Ushetti top scored with 69 whilst Pasindu Perera, Anantha Perera failed to convert their good starts. Chamika Sandaruwan picked up a brilliant five-for.

Kavindu Dilhara chipped in with 2 for 21 for St. Aloysius.

The boys from Negombo were on top of their game with the ball as they bowled out the Aloysians for 143 within the 39th over. Kavindu Dilhara ran out of partners to finish for the Galle team as he was unbeaten on 61.
