Tharindu, Kaumal outclass Isipathana

Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament 2018/19


Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa and Isipathana College, Colombo ended their traditional encounter with a crushing defeat to the latter today, 3rd January, while Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala and Mahinda College, Galle began their tournament game of Singer U19 division one tournament 2018/19.

Prince of Wales College vs Isipathana College

Tharindu Amarasinghe stroked 155 runs in an enterprising fashion against the visiting Isipathana College in their traditional game at Moratuwa. Prince of Wales College elevated themselves to a commanding position in the game as they posted 297 runs on board before declaring their innings with a session to go on day-one. Devaka Peiris also chipped in with 67 runs to his name.

Isipathana did not seem to have made amends since their last game, which they lost in similar fashion, as the batting department suffered severely. The team perished for just 74 runs as Kaumal Nanayakkara dictated terms with the ball. Kaumal picked up a six wickets for just 5 runs.

The new-kid in the double-green camp, Ravindu Rathnayake, who impressed with an elegant ton against their arch-rivals missed out on his second ton by 3 runs. Except for Ravindu, none other batsman took enough responsibility as the team suffered their second consecutive innings-defeat.

Kaumal Nanayakkara increased his tally to a match-bag 10-wicket haul with another 4 in the second-innings.

Mahinda College vs Maliyadeva College

The group ‘A’ game is being worked off at the Mahinda College grounds, Galle. The hosts won the toss and invited Maliyadeva College to bat first. Maliyadeva batsmen struggled against the Galle boys as they managed only 133 runs in their first innings. Supun Sumanarathne top scored with 56 runs while Kushan Madusha claimed 5 wickets to his name.

Mahinda College engaged in a fierce affair as they scored 301 runs in just 48 overs. Nipun Malinga smacked a quick-fire 91 runs while Hansika Welihinda also hit a half-century.
