Dharmasoka shock St. Peter’s to secure a Semi-Final berth

Dharmasoka thrash St. Peter’s

Ananda College and Dharmasoka College qualified for the Semi-Finals of U19 Schools Tier B Limited Over Cricket Tournament as they defeated St. Anthony’s College and St. Peter’s College respectively in the Quarter-Final encounters worked off today (21st April) at Colombo and Galle. 

St. Anthony’s College, Wattala vs Ananda College, Colombo   

After been put in to bat first, St. Anthony’s College displayed a poor batting effort as they were bundled out for 132 runs. The two off-spinners Maoshada Fernando and Saviru Bandara shone with the ball for Ananda taking 3 wickets each. 

Chasing 133 runs to win, Ananada College lost half of their side but they managed to cruise to the victory with 19 overs to spare. Lakshitha Kularathna 31 was the top scorer as he contributed with 31 runs off 32 balls while Nethma Karunarathne (29*) and Nushal Dharmarathna (24) chipped in with useful contributions with the bat.

St. Peter’s College, Colombo vs Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda  

The quarter-final encounter held between St. Peter’s College and Dharmasoka Collge was affected by the rain, therefore the game was reduced to a 40-over affair. After being invited to take the first lease of the wicket, St. Peter’s College posted 153 for 9 in the allotted 40 overs. 

Wanuja Kumara top-scored with a knock of 50 runs off 77 balls with 3 fours to his name. The off-spinner Sahan Sankalpa and right arm seamer Chanaka Jananga were impressive with the ball for Dharmasoka as they grabbed 3 wickets apiece.   

The sokians chased down the target in the 39th over with 5 wickets in hand. The left-hander Lohan de Zoysa (36) and Naveen Rasanga (29) built a match-winning 59-run partnership for the 6th wicket and remained unbeaten at the crease.

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia vs Trinity College, Kandy 

S. Thomas College and Trinity College met today in a one day encounter where Trinity College had the upper hand as they managed to clinch a 4-wicket victory. After winning the toss, the Thomians posted 195 for 8 on the board thanks to a well-compiled knock made by Shalin de Mel.

De Mel top scored with 49 runs off 91 balls with 3 fours while Kanika Dayarathna made 44 runs off 82 balls with 3 fours. Dinuka Thennakoon and Pasan Kularathne put the breaks on a strong Thomian batting lineup taking 3 wickets each. 

Trinity opening batsman Umair Raizan played a brilliant knock guiding his team to a 4-wicket victory. Raizan stroked 84 runs off 129 balls including 5 fours.
