Nipunaka Fonseka stroked a century for St. Peter’s College in their drawn traditional encounter against S. Thomas’ College today. The other traditional encounter held between Royal College and Wesley College also ended in a draw at Royal College Grounds.

Royal College, Colombo vs Wesley College, Colombo   

The traditional encounter between Royal College and Wesley College ended in a draw today at the Royal College Grounds. The visitors who were reeling at 92 for 7 at the end  the first day’s play, lost the remaining 3 wickets for just 7 runs.  

The hosts began their second innings with a 89-run lead and posted 138 for 7, setting a target of 228 runs for the Wesley batsmen to chase down. However, the visitors once again struggled with the bat as they made only 114 runs for 7 at stumps on day two. The left-arm spinner Gishan Balasooriya, who took 2 wickets in the first innings, bagged 3 more wickets for 56 runs for Royals.

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia vs St. Peter’s College, Colombo  

The traditional encounter between S. Thomas’ College and St. Peter’s College also ended in a draw today at Mount Lavinia. After being 51 for 2 at stumps on day one, the visitors put on a dominant batting display on day two, adding 217 runs more to the overnight score before declaring the innings. 

Nipunaka Fonseka stroked a brilliant century, helping the visitors go past the hosts’ first innings score. Fonseka made an unbeaten 101 runs off 184 balls with 9 fours. The Thomians began their second innings 41 runs behind and their second essay of batting failed to be impressive as they lost 6 wickets for 59 runs at the close of play on day two.
