Nalanda College takes major honours over Thurstan College

Nalanda College and Thurstan College ended their group ‘C’ fixture in a draw with Nalanda earning first-innings points. Four other games in Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament were played today, 15th October 2019.

The game was played at Thurstan grounds where the home team won the toss and elected to field first. Nalanda College boys posted 184 runs for the first-innings. Rashan Dissanayake top-scored with 61 runs while the new-found star for Thurstan College, Puntila Kumara once again led the bowling. The left-arm spinner picked up 4 wickets for 40 runs.

The Thurstanites were shot out for just 125 runs by the Nalandians courtesy left-arm paceman Dineth Samaraweera who bagged 4 wickets for 28 runs at the start of the innings setting up the collapse.  Chanul Athukorala and Sajitha Vithanage both feasted on the rest of the wickets bagging 3 wickets each.

Gurukula College, Kaleniya vs Bandaranayake College, Gampaha

This traditional fixture came to a close in a draw at Bulathsinhala. Gurukula College won the toss and put the Gampaha School to bat first. They were soon uprooted for just 40 runs in 25.1 overs. Risitha Sankalpa did major damage to the Bandaranayaka boys bagging a fifer Thushara Madushanka and skipper Praveen de Silva picked up 2 wickets each.

Gurukula College scored 143 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in reply and declared their innings. Nimesh de Silva scored 28 runs and remained unbeaten when they decided to declare the innings. Dineth Kumarasinghe topped the bowling chart with figures of 4 for 49.

Bandaranayake College scored 64 runs for the loss of 4 wickets when the game was called a draw.

The group ‘A’ game got underway at Galle International Stadium only to be forced for a half-a-day of play due to rain. Negombo boys won the toss and elected to bat first. The day only saw 45 overs of play in which Maristonians scored 149 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

This game at Campbell Park saw hardly any cricket as the weather permitted only 39 over of play. Ananda College looked pathetic in the tiny passage of play to almost put themselves in a position to lose the game if weather gods be kind tomorrow. They lost 8 wickets for 98 runs by stumps.
