Royal College, Colombo secured their place in the final of the U19 Inter-Schools Division 1 Tier ‘A’ Two Day Tournament 2024/25, claiming first innings points in a drawn semi-final clash against Trinity College, Kandy.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Royal College posted a formidable first innings total of 331, driven by three stellar half-centuries. Thevindu Wewalwala led the charge with a composed 78, supported by Hirun Liyanarachchi’s 67 and Udantha Gangewatte’s 60, as the trio anchored Royal’s innings with grit and flair.
Trinity College’s Malith Rathnayake was the standout bowler, claiming an impressive 5-wicket haul for 90 runs.
In response, Trinity College struggled to build momentum, managing only 212 in their first innings despite a valiant 95 from Malika Vithanage. Royal’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Ranuka Malaviarachchi, who delivered a match-defining performance, picking up 5 wickets for 70 runs.
