A total of six games were played in the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament showcasing intense battles between bat and ball across the island.
In the game between St. Benedict’s College, Colombo and S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia. Janindu Nandasena’s gritty 73 and Sharujan Shanmuganathan’s valiant 92 for St. Benedict’s were highlights. However, Dineth Goonewardene’s solid 94 steered the Thomians to a first-innings lead, earning them crucial points.
D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo dominated their game against Nalanda College, Colombo. Dilash Kumaranayake’s century (101) and Shanal Binushka’s 76 were instrumental in their first-innings total of 316/9d. Despite Nadul Jayalath’s fighting 91 for Nalanda, the latter fell short, conceding first-innings points.
Over at Negombo, St. Sebastian’s College secured an emphatic 8-wicket win over Maris Stella College, Negombo. Malintha Silva’s magnificent bowling effort (7/65) in the second innings was the cornerstone of their victory after enforcing a follow-on.
Mahanama College, Colombo edged ahead of Lumbini College, Colombo thanks to Sithum Vihanga’s all-round brilliance. His unbeaten 72 and a 4-wicket haul ensured a first-innings lead for Mahanama in a match that ended in a draw.
In an intense game, Moratu Maha Vidyalaya clashed with St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala. Twin centuries by Isuru Fernando (118) and Sanjana Senevirathne (104) powered Moratu to 300/6d. However, Kushan Subasinghe’s composed 69 for St. Anne’s ensured they claimed first-innings points in a high-scoring draw.
Finally, Isipathana College, Colombo emerged victorious over Wesley College in a dominating display. Chanul Dinodh’s fiery spell of 5/29 dismantled Wesley in their first innings, while Isipathana’s disciplined batting and bowling secured an 8-wicket win.
