Four games commenced for Day 1, while three others concluded today (10th January) in the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament, with De Mazenod College securing an emphatic outright win against St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy.

De Mazenod College recorded an outright victory against St. Sylvester’s College,  Kandy inspired by a brilliant Sharith Sudeena performance with the ball. Sudeena finished with a match bag of 9 wickets for the match helping his alma mater to clinch victory.

At the Ambepussa Army Camp Grounds, Holy Cross College, Kalutara narrowly avoided an outright defeat against Moratu Maha Vidyalaya after a disastrous first-innings collapse. Akash Gamage’s resilient half-century ensured Holy Cross scrap a draw, following Isuru Fernando’s scintillating century on Day 1.

Charya Paranawithana’s brilliant century guided St. Aloysius’ College, Galle to claim first-innings points against the in-form Dharmaraja College. Kavindu Kesara and Vinod Dhanushka also impressed with the bat, scoring crucial half-centuries for St. Aloysius.

Trinity College, Kandy gave the St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa bowlers a run for their money at the Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium. By the end of the day’s play, Trinity had smashed a commanding 339/4. Dimantha Mahavithana led the charge with an unbeaten 162, showcasing exceptional form, while Vathila Udara contributed a valuable 85 to the mammoth total.

Other standout performers of the day included Lashmika Perera of St. Peter’s, who played an innings-saving knock of 76 and Caruka Ekanayake of St. Anthony’s College, Kandy impressed with a five-wicket haul against Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa.
