Ananda College overcame Maris Stella College in a thriller, while Thurstan College beat Dharmasoka College in their Singer-Cup U19 Division I two-day quarter finals worked off today at Surrey village grounds and Kadirana grounds respectively.

Resuming on 131 for 3 wickets, Maris Stella College started the chase on a positive note as Kevin Perera made a fluent 67 and Sachindu Colombage a solid 44. However Anandian skipper Kavishka Anjula was wiry with his seam bowling as he grabbed four crucial scalps to restrict the lads from Negombo for 230 as they fell short of the target by 6 runs.

Skipper Kavishka Anjula and Sammu Ashan stroked brisk half-tons in the second innings as Ananda College ended up on 231 for 5 at close of play ensuring Ananda secure a place in the semi-finals.

Thurstan vs Dharmasoka

Chasing a victory target of 187, the Thurstanites came out all guns blazing as the top order made useful contributions and they entered the semi-finals with a convincing win over Dharmasoka in the quarter finals which concluded today at Kadirana grounds.

Middle order batting sensation Sawan Prabash anchored the innings with a splendid century and Charana Nanayakkara with a breezy 49 helped Thurstan College pile up 342 for 8 wickets to complete a first innings win. Kavindu Nadeeshan bagged four scalps for the Sokians.

Dharmasoka College struggled once again with the bat in the second innings as the left arm spinner Naveen Gunawardana made life difficult for the lads from Ambalangoda capturing 6 scalps.
