U17 Cricket – St. Peter’s, Thurstan and Prince of Wales advance to the quarter-finals

St. Peter’s College, Thurstan College and Prince of Wales College booked their berths in the quarter-final lineup in the ongoing under 17 all-island division one tournament when they won their respective pre-quarter final games on 30th July. 

St. Peter’s College vs Nalanda College

Peterite skipper and left-hander Manelker De Silva slammed a cracking century to help St. Peter’s beat Nalanda by 132 runs at Bambalapitiya. 

The left-hander batted for only 108 deliveries for his staggering innings of 132 which had 18 fours and 5 sixes. Gishan Rodrigo and Dinuja Peiris contributed with 56 and 46 respectively for the hosts as they posted an imposing 293 on the board. The visitors were bowled out within 36 overs as their spinners did the damage. Kasun Sandaruwan top-scored for the losing team with a fine 67. 

St. Peter’s – 293/8 in 50 overs: Manelker De Silva 132, Gishan Rodrigo 56, Dinuja Peiris 46, Kalana Perera 4/65, Dasun Senavirathne 2/63.

Nalanda – 161 all out in 35.5 overs: Kasun Sandaruwan 67, Givantha Fernando 2/28, Shivan Perera 2/33, Dinuja Peiris 2/34. 

Thurstan College vs Mahinda College

Left-hander Imesh Viranga’s classic 75 helped Thurstan beat Mahinda by 62 runs at Thurstan grounds. 

The home team was bundled out for only 206 runs as Binod Paranavithana and Reshan Kavinda shared six wickets between them. Chasing a par target, the boys from Galle failed to make an impression with the willow. They were completely wiped off the game. 

Thurstan – 206 all out in 50 overs: Imesh Viranga 75, Prageesha Mendis 39, Binod Paranavithana 3/35, Reshan Kavinda 3/52.

Mahinda – 144 all out in 50 Nishitha Malaka 50, Thisura Deshan 2/19, Nipun Lakshan 2/21  

Prince of Wales College vs Richmond College

Richmond College was knocked out of the tournament by 38 runs thanks to the high-riding Prince of Wales College outfit at Kadirana. 

Right-handed Chathuranga Peiris’ excellent knock of 62 helped the College in Moratuwa post a match-winning total of 216. Experienced Dhananjaya Lakshan and Avindu Theekshana took 2 wickets each for the visitors. Sasanga Peiris ripped through the Richmond batting lineup scalping four wickets to halt their chase. 

Prince of Wales – 216 all out in 49.4 overs: Chathuranga Peiris 62, Ravidu Rochana 44, Dhananjaya Lakshan 2/25, Avindu Theekshana 2/31.

Richmond College – 178 all out in 46.1 overs: Thisara Diwan 52, Sasanga Peiris 4/12.
