All-rounder Sammu Ashan blasted a blistering 170 to help Ananda College beat Thurstan College by 129 runs in their under 17 division one quarter-final encounter played at R. Premadasa Stadium.
Batting first, Ananda College amassed 300 runs for 9 wickets in their 50 overs. Skipper Sammu Ashan made a 119-ball 170 with 14 fours and 11 sixes. He was involved in a 100-run stand with Supun Waragoda who made 27 runs. Yehan Wickramasinghe and Thisara Deshan took 2 wickets apiece.
Chasing a massive target to win, Thurstan was only able to score 171 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Prageesha Mendis was the top runs-scorer with 46. Fast-bowler Asel Sigera captured 2 wickets for the winners.
Ananda will now meet Trinity College in the semi-final scheduled for next week.
