U17 Cricket – Ananda crush DSS to enter semis

Defending champions, Ananda College secured their place in the all-island under 17 division one cricket tournament semi-finals when they defeated D. S Senanayake College by 55 runs in the second quarter-final worked out at Lyceum International School grounds in Wattala today.

After opting to bat first, Ananda amassed a commanding 242 runs on the board from their 50 overs. Dushan Hettige stroked a brilliant knock of 88 while Shamal Hirushan made a hefty contribution of 48. Muditha Lakshan picked up 3 wickets for DS Senanayake College.

In reply, DSS batting failed miserably as they were bowled out for a mediocre 157. Muditha Lakshan excelled with the bat as well scoring a fighting 55 while three others chipped in with 20s. Left-arm spinner Ashel Sigera picked up 3 wickets for Anandians.

Ananda College – 242/9 in 50 overs: Dushan Hettige 88, Shamal Hirushan 48, Lahiru Hiranya 22, Muditha Lakshan 3/38.

DS Senanayake College – 157 all out in 44.4 overs: Muditha Lakshan 55, Dasun Dimasha 26, Induwara Ranathunga 22, Dimantha Kaushalya 24, Ashel Sigera 3/15, Shamal Hirushan 2/2, Sanath Dasanayake 2/26.
