U17 Cricket – St.Sebastian’s books a penultimate berth

St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa beat Sri Sumangala College Panadura by a comfortable 41 runs to reach the U 17 Div 1 Limited Overs semifinals at the R. Premadasa Stadium today. 

After winning the toss, St Sebastian’s College decided to take first lease of the wicket at the RPS before they made a healthy 230/6 in their allocated 50 overs. Manthila Wijerathna top scored with 55 runs while fluent knocks by Tharushan Fernando and Nuwanidu Fernando added another 52 and 51 runs respectively. For Sri Sumangala College, Sasantha De Silva took 3 for 63 and Kawmal Nanayakkara grabbed 2 for 31.

Chasing a target of 231, the Sri Sumangala batsmen engaged in a plodding pursuit reaching 97/3 in 27 overs before getting bowled out for 189 in 46.4 overs. Sasindu De Silva scored 52 while 36 came from Nipuna Fernando. For St. Sebastian’s, Praveen Jayawickrama captured 4 for 19. Avishka Fernando and Tharushan Fernando took 2 wickets each.
