While the rugby world cup is taking place in England, Sri Lanka is preparing for a feast of sevens rugby when Asia’s 7s spectacle drags itself to the magnificent Race Course International Stadium Colombo for the Dialog Sri Lanka rugby sevens which will be the third and final leg of the Asia 7s series. The event will take place on the on 10th & 11th October 2015 commencing.

Twelve men’s teams and eight women’s team will fly down to the pearl of the Indian Ocean in the coming week. The Sri Lankan men finished fourth in the first leg in China and second leg in Bangkok last week. As a result Sri Lanka is equal with Hong Kong with 18 points each.

The women’s team however, could not secure a single win in their first leg in China and they had to be satisfied taking the wooden-spoon.

It is expected to be a packed house when Sri Lankans converge to cheer their heroes. Dialog has declared free entrance giving all fans the opportunity to witness some high level rugby played to the most glamorous sevens tune.

The Japanese Men won both the legs and almost secured the championship with 24 points. While South Korea is in second spot with 21 points, China with 19 points is in third place. The Colombo leg will have an exciting competition for the 2nd – 4th place fight. Moreover, Hong Kong women made a strong statement finishing on top in the first leg beating the legendary Ben Gollings’ Chinese women.

The Tuskers are drawn in a not so competitive pool B. Japan from pool A and Korea from pool D looks posed to finish on top. Pool C will be a battle between China and Hong Kong on who finish on top, and as a result the second placed of pool C will take on the first-placed of pool A and the first of pool B will lock horns with the second of pool D in the cup quarterfinal on the 11th October.
