Defending champions, Trinity College Kandy registered their sixth win for the 2015/16 season as they defeated Bandaranayake College Gampaha by eight wickets on the 1st of January at Asgiriya.

Trinity College, who won the toss at home, invited the visitors to bat first on the Asgiriya pitch. The Bandaranayake batsmen were able to score a total of 179 runs at end of 47 overs. Sankalpa De Silva mastered the innings for the Bandaranayakians scoring a undefeated 50 while the other notable contribution was by Sasiri Adikari who scored 23.

Duvindu Tilekerathne and Nushan Weerasinghe did the damage in the bowling department for the hosts as Tilekerathne went on secure yet another five wicket haul. Duvindu’s figures at the end of the innings read 5/44 and Nushan Weerasinghe picked a couple.

Coming in to bat, the hosts amassed a total of 246 runs. Skipper Raveen Sayer lead the run getting from the front scoring 63 runs while Shavindu Amarasinghe contributed with 37. Skipper Raveen Sayer turned the Asgiriya pitch to his advantage securing six wickets while Duvindu Tilekerathne took the remaining four as the Bandaranayaka innings folded six runs short of three figures.

Needing 32 runs for victory, the Lions chased down the target in 2.4 overs losing two wickets. With a eight wicket win, Trinity College has thus given clear indications on their prospects for the new year.
