The newly appointed members of the Technical Consultative Committee for Sri Lanka Cricket, headed by Sanath Jayasuriya, received their appointment letters from the Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe today (11th April) at the Ministry.

Speaking at the occasion, Minister Ranasinghe mentioned that the 5-member Technical Committee has been entrusted to advise Sri Lanka Cricket on technical matters and investigate the player selections in the recent past.

“Sri Lanka has witnessed a huge setback as a Cricketing nation in the recent past. We need to examine what went wrong and set plans to bring home the next World Cup. We are determined to work with this newly appointed committee and achieve our targets successfully,” the Minister said.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the newly appointed committee, Sanath Jayasuriya, expressed his disappointment as Sri Lanka have to play World Cup qualifiers tournament to seal their place in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, and stressed the importance of examining reasons for that failure and taking actions to get Sri Lanka Cricket back on track.

“We will have discussions with the Selection Committee, Coaches and SLC officials regarding national team’s downfall in recent times. Following the inputs gained from those discussions, we will take necessary measures to make Sri Lanka cricket stronger once again. Our primary target will be to prepare a strong team for the upcoming World Cup” Jayasuriya said.
