Thurstan College, Colombo thrashed St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa by innings and 62 runs in their Singer-Cup group D game which concluded today at Thurstan grounds.

The home team resuming on 223 for 6 went on to declare their innings at 253 for 8 wickets hoping to wrap up the visitors and secure an outright win. Dananjaya Perera completed a five wicket haul for the visitors, however the lads from Wennappuwa made only 82 earlier in the game as they crumbled again in their second innings for a hapless 109 inside 49 overs. Dananjaya Perera made a valiant effort as he managed to score 67 runs, while left-arm spinner Naveen Gunawardana destroyed the visiting batting line up with four scalps as Thurstanites register another easy outright win.

St. Sebastian’s College took major honours against St. Benedict’s College in their traditional game which was worked off today in Moratuwa. Resuming on 45 for 5 the visitors were knocked out for 98 in 47 overs. The lads from Moratuwa made 233 earlier in the game. Tashik Waranakulasooriya was the most successful bowler for the home team as he captured four scalps. Bens fought back strong as they ended the day on 212 for 6 wickets with Maleesha Senevirathne scoring a match saving 62.

Maris Stella College dominated the drawn game against Maliyadeva College in a group D game which concluded today in Katuneriya. Maris Stella made 407 in the first innings as the visitors crumbled for a paltry 171 inside 41 overs as Ravindu Fernando rattled the Devans batting line up with 7 wickets. The visitors following-on managed to put up a formidable 289 for 5 as Dinanjaya Premarthne stroked a classy 93 and Dulaj Ranathunga chipped in with a valuable half-ton to save the game for Maliyadeva College.
