S. Thomas’ College came out on top narrowly in the U-16 Rugby encounter while the U-14s of S Thomas’ and St Anthony’s played out a draw at the Nittawela Ground, Kandy.

The U-16 match kicked off first in heavy rain and the Thomian youngsters scored first after a hard fought first few minutes of the match.

The match seemed to be very even after the converted try but the Thomian youngsters once again broke through the Antonian defense to get their second try of the match before the referee ended the first half with Thomas leading 14-00.

The second half got off to a dull start with the rains having ceased, as neither team got close to scoring until the Antonian juniors were the side to break through this time and went on to get their first try of the game which they failed to convert. They looked to build on that try as they kept on the attack and towards the end of the second half they got their second try. They opted not to take the conversion as they looked to save time and attempt to get another try.

However, it was not to be as the referee blew for full time soon after.

The U-14 encounter did not have the most exciting of first halves as neither team looked like they were close to getting a try and the first half ended 0-0.

The second half failed to produce any memorable moments as well as once again neither team looked to threaten the opposition try line, with the second half also failing to produce a single try before the referee blew for full time.
