S. Thomas’ College took on Ananda College in Mount Lavinia today and the Thomians ended with a mammoth 413/5 at the close of play.

The home team won the toss and elected to bat first and put on a solid batting display on a flat track. Skipper and one down batsman Javed Bongso was in prime form stroking 184 runs in 233 balls. The Thomian captain carved his way to a well worked ton which was inclusive of 16 boundaries and 1 six.

Two down batsman Thilaksha Sumanasiri was also in the thick of things scoring 119 runs in 135 balls. The right handed top order batsman hit 13 fours and 3 towering sixes. It was a more aggressive approach compared to the skipper with Bongso playing more of the anchor role.

The pair together put on 232 runs for the 3rd wicket to take control of the game. The partnership took 273 balls and 182 minutes and the duo battled it out to pile on the runs.

The bowlers from Ananda could not penetrate the Thomian defense with only Dushan Dissanayke taking 3 out of the 5 wickets for 82 runs.

It was a superlative batting display from the Thomian batsmen which gave them a clear advantage going in to day two.
