It was a tricky run chase for Team Galle but their skipper and Sri Lanka limited overs opener Upul Tharanga seemed to be at his fluent best, stroking the ball to all parts of the ground. He came up with some delightful stroke-play though he only found support from middle order bat Sammu Ashan who chipped in with a half century. Tharanga eventually reached the three figure mark as he continued to march on his merry way before his wicket and a cluster of wickets thereafter placed them in a precarious situation.
Tharanga’s 127 which came off 121 balls included 16 hits to the rope and 1 over it as the game continued to head towards a thrilling finish after his dismissal. From 220/3 they slid to 250/7 but Seekuge Prasanna did what he does best and took the bowlers to the cleaners with an explosive unbeaten 34* off just 16 balls as Galle recorded a much deserved three wicket victory.
Charith Asalanka, Prabath Jayasuriya and Sachith Pathirana captured three wickets a piece for Team Kandy.
