Strong Second half performance helps Pathana past St. Anthony’s in to Bowl Final

A strong second half show from the Isipathana U18 team against St. Anthony’s helped them secure a place in the Bowl Final of the “Milo” under 18 ‘Fifteen a side’ rugby tournament. The game was worked off at the Royal Complex on the 9th of September.

On a sunny afternoon (2pm kick off) at the Royal complex, Isipathana college kicked off from left to right. The game was balanced from the start as both teams looked good with ball in hand. Isipathana College got the early advantage as scrum-half W.K. Werasinha scored the only points of the first half as he scored in the right corner. D.V. Hettiarachichi failed to add the extra two points as the scores stood at 5-nil in favour of Pathana at the end of the first half.

Isipathana began the second half in convincing fashion as they notched up another try in the third minute of the second half as centre W.C.A. Fernando setup fullback D.V. Hettiarachichi to score under the post. D.V. Hettiarachichi converted his own try to extend the score to 12-nil in favour of Pathana.

Winger G.L.D. Padmasanka scored the third try of the game as he received the ball from a well- constructed move as Isipathana college continued to pile on the pressure on the boys from Kandy. Fly-half D.G.H. Wickramarathne converted successfully and the score read 19-nil in favour of Isipathana College.

Fly-half D.G.H. Wickramarathne beautifully stepped his way through the Antonian defence as he set up scrum-half W.K. Werasinha to score his second of the game as Isipathana continued on their way to a commanding victory. D.V. Hettiarachichi failed to add the extra two points as the score read 26-nil in favour of Pathana.

The boys from Havelock town did not disappoint this time as they managed their fifth try as replacement Wingman A.B. Charles managed to score right on the buzzer as Pathana ran out winners of this contest to qualify in to the final of the Bowl segment in the “Milo” under 18 ‘Fifteen a side’ rugby tournament.
