St. Peter’s College regained the Rev. Fr. Peter Pillai Memorial Shield, beating St. Joseph’s College by 3 wickets in their 50th annual Limited Overs Cricket Encounter played today (6th April) at SSC Grounds, Colombo.
After been put into bat first, St. Joseph’s College got off to a shaky start as they lost their opening pair insides first 6 overs for 22 runs.

However, Hirun Kapurubandara and Hiran Jayasundara revived the innings adding 124-run partnership for the third wicket before the former departed after scoring a well-made 70 runs.
Jayasundara also notched up a fine half-century but after their dismissals Joes witnessed a batting collapse losing 6 wickets for 62 runs. Lashmika Perera was the pick of the bowlers for St. Peter’s College as he grabbed 3 wickets for 51 runs.
Dilana Damsara and Oween Salgado got St. Peter’s off to a brilliant start as the put on 113-run stand for the first wicket. Damsara was the aggressor of the two as he made 67 runs off 60 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 111.67.
The opening batter Salgado chipped in with useful 40 runs but after their dismissals, St. Peter’s College faced a chaotic period as they lost 4 wickets for 67 runs.

Despite going through some anxious moments, they managed to race to the target as Shennon Rodrigo (36) and Nathan David (35*) contributed with useful knocks.
Shennon Rodrigo who contributed with vital 36 runs in the run-chase while picking up 2 wickets with the ball for St. Peter’s College won the player of the match award.
