St. Joseph’s College U14 team lands in Japan

The St. Joseph’s College U14 team that took flight to Japan will now face off in a tournament organized by the Japanese Rugby Authorities.

The tournament will feature 16 domestic and foreign teams which will be divided into four pools of four each, and teams within those pools will play each other once each.

The tournament Asian rugby exchange Festa, aims to promote the sound diffusion and development of rugby in the Asian region, and to exchange and develop players aiming at the Olympics and the World Cup at the Asian level.

The squad

Shermal Fernando, Richy Dilusha, Matheesha Santhush, Senithu Eran, Ivano White, Shenal Fernando, Ivan Jayasuriya, Yevin Hansaja Perera, Manodhya Jayasekara,Anjika Manudith, Videl Mendis, Janith Vishmitha Marasinghe, Nihamal Bandara, Chathiya Fernando, Ishan Thamuditha Weragoda, Thejana Karunanayake, Rehan Devaka.

Although the tournament will take place following the international laws of the game stipulated in 2018 by World Rugby, local rules will be applied as indicated below, and seven players will play per team.

When determining the ranking of the pool matches, the team with the most wins in the all the pool matches will top the ranking.

In the event that two teams have gotten the same number of wins and losses, the winner of the match between the concerned teams will be ranked higher. If the match between the concerned teams resulted in a draw, the team with a higher goal differential will be ranked higher. If the ranking still cannot be determined, it will be determined by lottery. However, there will be no ranking for the block matches.

Both pool matches, and block matches will last 10 minutes.

Player replacement from among the 12 registered players can be unconditionally approved after requesting permission from the person in charge on the pitch and receiving permission from the referee. Players can be replaced at any time, and there is no limitation on the number of times players can be replaced. However, teams in which players are divided into two team groups may have the players join the match only in the team group that they were originally registered under.
