Sri Lanka crowned champions of Hong Kong Sixes 2024 as they registered a comfortable win over Pakistan in the final played today (3rd November) at Mong Kok.

Sri Lanka registered a 3-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second Semi Final encounter to secure a place in the final.

Batting first, Bangladesh posted 103 runs for 5 wickets in the allotted 6 overs. Tharindu Rathnayake produced a brilliant spell, scalping 4 wickets for 33 runs.

Sri Lanka managed to chase down the target in the penultimate ball of their innings as the opening batter Sandun Weerakkody scored a blistering knock – 50 off 16 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes at strike rate of 312.50, setting the tone for the run-chase.

In the final, Sri Lanka overcame the Pakistan challenge with a convincing win. After been put into bat first, Pakistan were restricted to 76 runs with Dhananjaya Lakshan and Tharindu Rathnayake picking up 2 wickets each for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka cruised to the target with ease as Weerakkody once again set the tone at the top order with a quick-fire knock of 34 runs off 13 balls with a four and 4 sixes.

Lakshan who picked up 2 key wickets in the first over of the match for Sri Lanka won the player of the match award while Rathnayake claimed the player of the tournament award for his heroics with the ball throughout the tournament. (8 wickets in 5 matches).
