Sri Lanka managed to qualify for the Quarter Finals of Hong Kong Sixes 2024 as they registered wins in their two Group Stage games played today (1st November) at Mong Kok.

Competing in Group D, Sri Lanka registered a comfortable win over Oman in their first game of the tournament.

After been put into bat first, Oman posted 80 runs for 2 wickets in the allotted 6 overs. Sri Lanka cruised to the target with ease as the opening batter Sandun Weerakkody and No. 4 batter Lahiru Samarakoon produced blistering knocks.

Weerakkody smashed 28 runs off 7 balls with a four and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 400 while Samarakoon hit unbeaten 20 runs off 6 balls with 3 sixes at a strike rate of 333.33.

In the second match, Sri Lanka overcame Bangladesh challenge successfully to seal their place in the Quarter Finals.

Having been asked to bat first, Sri Lanka posted 107/3 with the skipper Lahiru Madushanka leading from the front with a stunning knock.

He clubbed unbeaten 48 runs off 17 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 282.35. The opening batter Thanuka Dabare also contributed with a vital knock worth 32 runs off 12 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 266.66.

In reply, Bangladesh showed some fight with the bat but they fell 18 runs short of the target at the end. Madushanka who impressed with the bat earlier in the day, showcased his skills with the ball scalping 2 wickets for 26 runs.

Sri Lanka will face Nepal in the third Quarter Final encounter tomorrow (2nd November) at 1.20 PM (Sri Lankan Time).

Sri Lanka – 82/2 (4.1) Sandun Weerakkody 28, Lahiru Samarakoon 20*

 

Result – Sri Lanka won by 4 wickets

Bangladesh – 89/3 (6) Mohammed Saifuddin 42*, Jishan Alam 27, Lahiru Samarakoon 2/26

 

Result – Sri Lanka won by 18 runs
