Sri Lanka U23 Men’s Squad – South Asian games 2019

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) announced a 20-man squad for the South Asian Games 2019 which will be held in Kathmandu Nepal from 1st to 10th December.

With the news surrounding the men’s and women’s Football teams being considered as a non-medal hopeful sport in the forthcoming games by the Sports Ministry, the FFSL announced the men’s squad for the games.

The games restricts the age group to U23 for football but three overage players can be part of the squad. Current skipper Mohamed Fazal, Sujan Perera and Duckson Puslas has been included as the overage players.

The number of players and officials has been restricted to only 20 players and 4 officials in the touring party. Head Coach Nizam Packeer Ali along with Manager Sunil Senaweera will lead the squad.

Notable players who have been excluded are Sri Lanka U19 skipper Shabeer Razooniya and Mohamed Sajid who excelled in the 2020 AFC U19 Championship qualifiers in Qatar.

The remainder of the squad has been in training for the last 22 months and has been part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
