Sri Lanka U20s to face China in tournament opener

The Sri Lanka Under 20 Sevens team which is currently in Hong Kong for the Asia Rugby Under 20 Sevens series will kick things off early on 10th of August 2018 as they face China in the tournament opener.

The team led by Naveen Henakankanamge that left for Hong Kong last evening, will be playing two of their three group stage games on the first day of the tournament (10th) while they will play their final group stage game early on day 2 (11th).

Sri Lanka will play last year’s 7th place finishers China on the 10th as their first game and will later face Chinese Taipei in their second group stage game. The Chinese Taipei team finished just behind the Junior Tuskers last year, defeating South Korea in the 3rd place play-off.

Sri Lanka’s final match in the group stages will be against Singapore that will be played on the 11th morning.

The timings for the group stage games are as follows:

  1.    Sri Lanka v China – 10th August 2018 10.44 (SL time)
  2.    Sri Lanka v Chinese Taipei – 10th August 2018 1.44 (SL time)
  3.    Sri Lanka v Singapore – 11th August 2018 7.30 a.m. (SL time)

The top two teams will qualify for the semifinals that will take place in the afternoon on the 11th.

Four players remain from the team that made it to King’s Park Stadium in Hong Kong last year and with an experienced side, the Junior Tuskers will be ideally looking at finishing on top of the group and making it through to the semifinals.
