Sri Lanka is said to resume international cricket with a Two Test tour to South Africa in December 2020, according to Sri Lanka Cricket officials.

The tour is “being finalized, but will take place for sure,” Sri Lanka Cricket officials were quoted by The Island on Sunday, 25th October. It is also mentioned that the first Test will be the Boxing Day Test and the second, the New Year Test.

India Women likely to tour Sri Lanka in November

The venues for the games are yet to be finalised but SLC has noted that the Boxing Day Test might take place in Durban or Port Elizabeth while traditionally the New Year Test is played in Cape Town.

Quarantine details and health guidelines are being discussed and the Islanders are expected to leave the country on the 12th of December. This might change as per the regulations.

The greatest innings of all time?

This will be a tour that is considered for the ICC Test Championship 2019/21. Sri Lanka is standing at the 6th position in the table, having played 2 series and earning 80 points.

Sri Lanka has not played any international cricket since they last hosted the West Indies in early March. Several tours including England and India’s visits were postponed since then due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the fans were starving for international cricket.

England tour to Sri Lanka in doubt over strict quarantine rules

This will be wonderful news for the fans and cricketers as their last visit to South Africa ended remarkably well. Sri Lanka became the first Asian nation to win a Test series on South African soil when they last toured the country in 2019. Kusal Perera’s magical knock of 153 runs in the Durban Test was the standout of the tour.

SLC officials have also said that all postponed tours will be played in the next two years.
