The Sri Lankans got off to a fantastic start in the inaugural Blind Cricket Asia Cup as they managed to defeat both Bangladesh and Nepal in their 1st two games of the tournament.

The matches were played at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi on the 19th and 20th of this month.

In the first game the Lankans took on Bangladesh and after dominating the match from the early stages, they eventually settled for a nine-wicket win against their fellow South Asians.

Winning the toss and batting first, the Bangladeshi players could only manage 129 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted overs. Shahadat Hoossen top scored for them with 26 off 26 deliveries while Suranga Sampath did the damage for the Sri Lankans, picking up 2 for 28 in his 4 over spell.

Sampath then blew away the Bangladeshi bowlers making 56 runs off just 38 deliveries leading the Lankan run chase; the Lankans reached their target in just 13.4 overs. His excellent all-round performance earned Sampath the Man of the Match award.

Sri Lanka next took on Nepal on Wednesday and handed their opponents a sound beating. The game was reduced to 17 overs per side due to inclement weather. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to have a bat and piled on a mammoth total of 239 for the loss of 2 wickets.

Ruwan Wasantha was the only man to miss out from the Lankan batting lineup as the rest scored freely. Chandana Deshapriya was unbeaten on 124 off 62 deliveries at the end of the allotted overs while Saman Kumara chipped in with 56 of 29 balls. Ram Prasad Paudel picked up the only wicket to fall to a bowler for Nepal as Kumara was run out.

In reply the Nepalese batmen could only manage 102/5 in their 17 overs as the Sri Lankan bowlers kept a lid on the scoring. Padam Bahadur Badaila made 33 while Suranga Sampatha and D Ravindra picked up 3 wickets between them.

Sri Lanka ended up winning by a massive 137 runs. Chandana Deshapriya was named man of the match for his outstanding knock.

Sri Lanka are scheduled to play Pakistan today.
