Sri Lanka Netball begins search for National Head Coach

The Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL) has called for applications for the vacant Head Coach position of the Sri Lanka Netball Team.

The new Head Coach will be appointed targeting coaching the team for the 2022 Asian Netball Championship and all other tournaments which will fall around that period.

The Sri Lanka Netball community were given a shock when the much admired and successful Thilaka Jinadasa resigned last month from her position as the Sri Lanka Head Coach.

Jinadasa took over as the Head Coach, her 2nd stint with Sri Lanka, in January 2018 and by September she masterminded Asian glory for the first time since 2009. Incidentally, she was the Head Coach on that occasion as well. During her time as Head Coach from 2018 to the end of 2019, Sri Lanka rose from 28th to 18th place in the World Rankings.

According to Victoria Lakshmi, President of the NFSL, Sri Lanka will be taking part in the Asian Indoor Games in May 2021, which included Netball for the first time.

The NFSL are planning to take a long-term approach with the idea of playing the Nations Cup as well as against the other foreign countries. Even though the Sri Lanka Netball constitution has approved of only a one-year term for a coach, in the past, the NFSL will extend the term for another year upon considering the performance of the team.

Applicants who are interested in applying for the position should send in their CV through email or registered post before 4th June 2020. For more information please contact Champa Gunawardena – Secretary NFSL – 0773 332 400.
