Smith out of remaining T20Is against Sri Lanka with concussion

Sri Lanka Tour of Australia 2022

Steve Smith injury

Steve Smith has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20I series against Sri Lanka with a concussion. According to Cricket Australia, Smith will be subjected to low level protocols for the next few days with a full recovery expected in 6-7 days.

Smith sustained the injury to his head while trying to save a six in the final over of a thrilling chase. He put in a full length dive as he tried to stop a hit from Maheesh Theekshana close to the midwicket boundary rope. But he landed on his head and his foot also touched the ropes, with the resultant six and a four off the last ball helping Sri Lanka to force the game into the Super Over.

Smith, who was back on his feet after a while, left the ground as he watched with disappointment the umpire signaling a six. Australia were clinical in the Super Over and took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The third T20I will be played on February 15 in Canberra.
