Sri Lanka Air Force women crowned 50-over Champions

The SLC Women’s Premier League 50-Over Tournament organized by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) concluded yesterday (09) with Sri Lanka Air Force ‘A’ becoming the champions of the tournament while Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club crowned as runners up.

The tournament was played between eight participants (Sri Lanka Air Force ‘A’, Seenigama Ladies CC, Colombo Colts Cricket Club, Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club, Chilaw Marians CC, Army Cricket Club ‘A’, Sri Lanka Air Force ‘B’ and Army Cricket Club ‘B’) as round robin matches where each team got to play each other once.

The table-topper by the end of the tournament was declared as the champions of the tournament thus Sri Lanka Air Force ‘A’ was crowned as the champions as they claimed the highest points. Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club was crowned runners-up in the tournament finishing second in the points table.

In the last day of the tournament, four encounters were supposed to be played yesterday (09) at different venues but only the fixture between Seenigama Ladies CC and Colombo Colts Cricket Club was played as the other three encounters, Chilaw Marians CC vs Navy SC, Army CC (A) vs Air Force SC (A) and Army CC (B) vs Air Force SC (B), were called off due to the prevailing weather conditions around the island.

The encounter between Seenigama Ladies CC vs Colombo Colts Cricket Club was reduced to a 20-over affair as rain interrupted the play at Colts Cricket Grounds in Colombo. After being put into bat first, Seenigama Ladies CC made 79 runs for 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. 

Amadi Kavindya was the chief contributor with the bat as she made 25 runs for the visitors. Kavisha Kumari and Janadi Amarathunga picked up 3 wickets each for the hosts. In reply, the hosts made only 58 runs for 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Deesha Deepak, Sachini Nisansala and Vishmi Dewmini shone with the ball picking up 2 wickets each for the visitors.
