Colombo Cricket Club crowned champions of the SLC Major League Tournament 2022 as they registered first innings win over Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club in the final of the tournament worked off today (20th November) at SSC Grounds in Colombo.
Colombo Cricket Club resumed the fourth and final day at 411/5 trailing by 147 runs with 5 wickets in hand, with the overnight batters Chamindu Wijesinghe (71*) and skipper Ashan Priyanjan (52*) remaining at the crease.
Wijesinghe and Priyanjan continued to send the bowlers on leather hunt building a massive 219-run partnership for the 6th wicket. The experienced batter Priyanjan who was playing his 150th first-class match, brought up his 13th century.

Wijesinghe managed to stroke his 2nd first-class century reaching the milestone with a six. He scored 139 runs off 246 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes – His highest score in first-class cricket. The wicket-keeper batter Pavan Rathnayake also played a crucial half-century as CCC posted 669 runs for their first innings. The off-spinner Ravindu Fernando was Tamil Union’s best bowler on show in the final as he picked up 6 wickets for 160 runs.
Tamil Union C & AC began their second innings 111 runs behind and batted with real aggression posting 145/4 in 15.5 overs at a run rate of 9.15. Fernando who starred with the ball-taking 6-fer, showed his skills with the bat scoring 56 runs off 32 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 175.
Though the match was ended in a draw, Colombo Cricket Club crowned champions of SLC Major League Tournament 2022 as they recorded first innings win in the final. This is CCC’s third consecutive Major League title after winning the tournament in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.
