Sri Lanka top-order batsman Dhananjaya de Silva will fly out today(3) to West Indies to join the Sri Lanka team for the three-match Test series which begins on the 6th of June at Port of Spain.

Dhananjaya was in the initial 17-man squad named for the series but withdrew just hours before boarding a flight to the West Indies, after his father, Ranjan de Silva, was shot dead on the 24th of May by an unidentified gunman.

While most of his team mates spent the eve of their departure with him, the devastated opener was forced to stay back from the tour.

Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC) Chief Selector Graeme Labrooy confirmed to ThePapare.com that Dhananjaya de Silva is set to join the squad in West Indies.

“He is set to leave Sri Lanka today. The team management in the West Indies will decide if he is good enough to play the first Test on the 6th of June.” said Labrooy.

De Silva who made his Test debut almost two years ago had a dream start against the Australians top scoring in a three match home Test series, before losing his place later on due to loss of form. He made a comeback during the Delhi Test against India last year where he made an unbeaten century to salvage an unlikely draw. He followed it up with a century against Bangladesh and has remained a key component in the longer format for Sri Lanka.

During their last series in 2008, Sri Lanka won the first match on the back of a fine century from Malinda Warnapura but hosts fought back to square the two-match series in the second and final match.
