Sinhalese Sports Club qualified for the Final of SLC Major Clubs 50 Over Tournament 2023/24 as they beat Colts Cricket Club by 6 wickets in the Semi Final encounter worked off today (14th January) at NCC Grounds, Colombo.
Sinhalese Sports Club’s skipper Avishka Fernando won the toss and invited Colts Cricket Club to take the first lease of the wicket. Ravindu Rashantha and Sangeeth Cooray opened the batting for Colts CC, and they managed to put on a decent partnership for the first wicket, adding 48 runs in 8.4 overs.
However, SSC bowlers managed to strike back, picking up 5 wickets for 74 runs to push Colts CC onto the backfoot at 122 for 5. The middle order batter Hashan Dumindu and No. 7 batter Muditha Lakshan then revived the innings, sharing a 59-run partnership for the 6th wicket, helping Colts CC put on a respectable total – 236/8 on the board.
Dumindu was the top-scorer for Colts CC as he made 63 runs off 96 balls with 3 fours and a six. The spinners Prabath Jayasuriya, Nuwanidu Fernando and seamer Chamindu Wickramasinghe excelled with the ball for SSC, claiming 2 wickets each.

In reply, SSC faced an early setback as they lost 2 quick wickets for just 31 runs inside the first 6 overs. However, the skipper Fernando and No. 4 batter Krishan Sanjula rescued the innings, sharing a match-winning 150-run stand for the third wicket.
Fernando stole the limelight, scoring an unbeaten 125 runs off 138 balls with 15 fours and a six. In comparison, Sanjula contributed with valuable 58 runs in the middle order as SSC crossed over the line quite convincingly with 6 wickets in hand.
SSC will meet Sebastianites C & AC in the final of the tournament, which will be played on the 16th of January at SSC Grounds.
