The SLC Greys beat the SLC Greens by 81 runs in the 5th game of the SLC Invitational T20 League 2022 which worked off today (13th August) at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.
Having won the toss, SLC Greens’ Skipper Dasun Shanaka opted to bowl first in a must-win encounter against SLC Greys. The left-handed duo Thanuka Dabare and Kasun Vidura opened the batting for the Greys and they managed to put on an excellent partnership (119 runs off 70 balls), setting a brisk foundation for a big score.
Dabare top-scored for the Greys, contributing with 66 runs off 40 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 165. After a massive century stand for the opening wicket, the Greys lost their way in the middle as they lost 7 wickets for 47 runs in the remaining 8.2 overs, being restricted to 166/7 in the allotted 20 overs.
The Skipper Dasun Shanaka and chinaman bowler Lakshan Sandakan impressed with the ball for the Greens as they took 2 wickets each. Chasing 167 runs to win, Niroshan Dickwella and Pathum Nissanka opened the innings for the Greens.
The duo put on a 31-run stand for the opening wicket, but it was a slow start for the Greens as it came in 5.4 overs. Dickwella and Chandimal looked solid at the crease trying to rescue the Greens’ innings, but their stand lasted for only 35 runs as the off-spinner Ashan Priyanjan dismissed both batters in two consecutive deliveries.
Greens’ middle and low order also failed with the bat as they were bowled out for just 85 runs in 15.5 overs, handing an 81-run victory for the SLC Greys. Leg-spinner Pulina Tharanga and left-arm spinner Muditha Lakshan impressed with the ball for the Greys as they picked up 3 wickets each.
