Sri Lanka women’s team suffered a heavy eight wicket defeat at the hands of their West Indies counterparts as Stafanie Taylor scored an unbeaten 56 runs to reach a victory target of 85 runs with five overs to spare in the Women’s World Cup T20 match played at Sylhet Stadium yesterday.

Chasing 85 runs to win West Indies lost opener Kycia Knight when she was stumped by Rebeca Vandort off the bowling of Sri Lanka captain Shashikala Siriwardena for 15 runs. But Taylor carried the bat through with a 45-ball knock which included seven fours to record a convincing victory.

Deciding to bat first SL women were bowled out with three overs remaining in their innings as Tremayne Smartt and Shanel Daley shared seven wickets between them. Yasoda Mendis, Eshani Kaushalya and Sripali Weerakkody were the only batswomen to reach double figures for Sri Lanka.

SL Women: 84 all out in 16.5 overs (Yasoda Mendis 21, Eshani Kaushalya 20; Tremayne Smartt 3/15, Shanel Daley 4/15)

WI Women: 85 for 2 in 15 overs (Stafanie Taylor 56n.o)
