The only batsmen to miss out from the first innings, Kusal Mendis, hit a solid unbeaten half century as Sri Lanka completed their warm up ahead of the first Test on the 6th of June.

Akila Dananjaya pegs back West Indies President’s XI

Fresh from his maiden IPL stint, Akila Dananjaya captured 3 wickets and scored a vital 30 runs to help…

Resuming on their overnight score of 223/7, West Indies-XI managed to make 274 all out with Rahkeem Cornwall making an unbeaten gal century. Lahiru Kumara dismissed Jomel Warrican for 8 runs to capture his third wicket while Dilruwan Perera picked up the last two wickets to fall as Sri Lanka secured a 156 run first innings lead, but opted to have a hit in the second innings instead of a follow-on.

Kumara, Dilruwan Perera and Akila Dananjaya ended up with three wickets apiece for Sri Lanka while the other wicket to fall was the run out of set batsman and skipper Kieran Powell who made a fluent half century.

The two Kusal’s, Mendis and Perera looked in fine touch in the second innings and seemed to be the likely openers for the first Test starting on Wednesday. While Kusal Perera – the half centurion from the first innings – made 50 runs before he was retired to give Roshen Silva a hit, Kusal Mendis who made a golden duck in the first innings, remained unbeaten on 60*.

Mendis stroked five fours and a six after he fell off the first ball of the match, when Miguel Cummins cleaned him up with a peach of delivery. Roshen Silva also spent vital time in the middle remaining unbeaten on 22*, as the game was brought to a premature end after both captains agreeing with Sri Lanka 135/0 in their second innings.

Earlier in the match Sri Lanka made 428 all-out in their first innings with skipper Dinesh Chandimal making a dodged century. Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Perera chipped in with half centuries in quick time as the visitors made a dominating score on a tricky surface.
