A.O. Shola produced a moment of brilliance deep into injury time to give Solid a valuable three points against the Up-Country Lions.

Shola gives Solid a last grasp winner

Playing in front of their fans at the Anuradhapura Prison Grounds, Solid started off brightly but couldn’t find a way through the well drilled Up-Country defense led by former Sri Lanka captain Rohana Ruwanthilaka and current Sri Lanka squad custodian Dasun Paranavithana.

As the game went on the Lions who lie 7th in the Dialog Champions League points table started to pose threats to the host’s defense making life uncomfortable. With the 90 minutes run out and playing injury time the nerves of the fans grew larger and had almost accepted a draw when Shola out of nowhere scored the winner with the final kick of the game sending the fans into ecstasy.

Navy in a hard fought win

Table leaders Navy scrapped through for a tight 1-0 win over bottom ranked Kalutara Park at the Navy grounds in Welisara.

It was hardly the display the Navy fans and the coaching staff would have hoped for after their shock defeat last week at the hands of promoted Thihariya Youth and against the struggling Kalutara Park side but would be none the less be happy with the three points.

Kalutara Park played their hearts out in defense; however the same cannot be said about the offense as they lacked a creative force.

Chaminda Sanjeewa scored the only goal of the match in the 31st minute while they were unable to add any more from a numerous chances they had in the second half.

Pelicans stroll through for an easy win

Asanka de Silva’s brace either side of the half time whistle helped Pelicans SC from Kurunegala defeat Thihariya Youth at the Maliyadeva Grounds in Kurunegala.

Thihariya Youth came into the match on an all time high after defeating table leaders Navy SC 1-0 last week but failed miserably to continue that form.

Thihariya Youth were put under constant pressure by the home side and went ahead in the 36th minute with Mohomed Imran’s goal.

Just before the half time whistle Asanka scored his first to double Pelicans lead going into half time.

Whatever the team talks in the Thihariya camp at halftime never materialized as Asanka’s second soon after the restart quashed any comeback from the visitors and win the match 3-0.
