Shehan Jayasuriya single handedly destroys Ragama CC

Four matches of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Major League Super 8s began today(06).

Ragama vs Chilaw 

Ragama CC were annihilated, bowled out for just 57 runs inside 30 overs with Sri Lanka cap and right arm off spinner Shehan Jayasuriya capturing seven wickets, out of which six were left handers.

 

Chilaw were also bowled out late in the day for 211, with Jayasuriya being the hero once again with a brilliant 80 runs in quick time. Off spinners Nishan Pieris and Akshu Fernando were the pick of the bowlers for Ragama sharing seven wickets among them.

BRC vs SSC

The match between BRC and SSC was in the balance when SSC ended day one on 114/4 in reply to BRC’s 200 all-out.

Harsha Vithana hit a fighting 77 for BRC but the day belonged to the former De Mazenod College left arm tweaker Akash Senaratne who picked up his maiden first class five wicket haul for SSC.

The top order made starts for SSC but they couldn’t capitalize on their starts with Chamikara Edirisinghe and TM Sampath picking up two wickets apiece.

NCC vs Saracens

NCC were down and out at 34/5 with the Saracens fast bowling duo of Ranitha Liyanarachchi(2/45) and Mohomed Dilshad(3/38) all over them, but axed Sri Lanka Test cricketer, Tharindu Kaushal, more known for right arm off spin, played the innings of his life to go on and make his maiden first class century, while also getting the NCC innings back on track.

His first fruitful partnership came for the sixth wicket as he added 124 runs with Chathuranga De Silva who made a valuable 59, before he put on another 75 runs with Lasith Embuldeniya for the 9th wicket to lift NCC to 284 all-out.  His knock of 131 included 15 hits to rope and one over it. Sachithra Perera cleaned up the tail for Saracens to capture three wickets.

Colts vs SLPA CC

It continued to be a bowlers day in almost all four matches as Colts were bowled out for a paltry 92 in their match against Ports Authority.

The chief destroyers for Ports were Chanaka Komasaru and Maduka Liyanapathiranage who captured five and four wickets respectively.

Ports in their turn batted themselves into a strong position to end the day on 180/2 with former English Test Star Nick Compton making a half century.
