Science cruise to victory over Thurstan College in under 18 rugby

Science College dismantled a disorganized Thurstan College side in the in “Milo” under 18 ‘Fifteen a side’ rugby quarter final match played at Science College grounds yesterday.

On a rainy evening in Mount Lavina, Science College kicked off the game to the whistle of referee D Nimal. Playing on home turf Science College looked favorites from the word go as but due to the wet weather both teams found it hard to settle down in to the game which was brought to halt on many occasions due to bad handling. 

With minutes remaining in the first half Science College were able to register the first score on the board as winger W.A.S. Dilshan made a scintillating break down left hand side of the field and finished his hard work touching down in the same corner to bring the curtain down on the first half. W.A.S. Dilshan failed to convert his own try as the half time score read 5-nil in favor of Science College.

Although the weather did not allow the boys from Mount Lavinia to express themselves in the first half they hit the ground running in the second half as they dotted down in the 5th minute of the second half through a try from blind side winger D.M.D. Rukshan. S.A.H.P. Madushan failed to convert the try. Science 10-00 Thurstan

Science  soon added two more tries from blind side flanker K.A.S.J. Fernando and prop forward D.L. De Silva. Scrum half G.D.J. Lakshan converted the try from K.A.S.J. Fernando but failed to convert the try from D.L. De Silva as the Science College score was extended to 22-nil.

Science College lock forward S.D.K. Chamara sealed a good effort as he dotted down in the dying moments of the game as Science College managed to wrap up the game as worthy winner to proceed to the semifinal of the “Milo” under 18 ‘Fifteen a side’ rugby tournament. S.A.H.P. Madushan failed to convert the try as the full time score registered as 27-nil in favor of Science College.
