The Premier Super 8s of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Major League Tournament kicked off around the island. Four matches began today and they will be four day encounters compared to the three day games played in the group stage, while the matches will be played with a pink ball.

NCC vs Ragama CC

Chathuranga De Silva’s fighting 90 runs kept NCC in the game as the rest of their batting failed to make an impression against an impressive Ragama CC bowling unit.

Right arm medium quicks Ishan Jayarathne and Janith Liyanage shared six wickets between them while left arm spinner Amila Aponso captured three wickets.

In reply, Ragama CC ended the day on 55/1 with former Sri Lanka Test opener Udara Jaysundara unbeaten on 26*.

BRC vs Colts

The young and stylish right handed batsman Shashin Dilranga continued to impress for BRC as he finally hit his maiden first class century after coming ever so close twice during the group stage.

Hashen Ramanayake, son of former Sri Lanka cricketer Champaka Ramanayake also made a useful half century as BRC ended the day on 310/9.

Nisala Tharaka who has impressed with his swing and seam throughout the tournament, captured a five wicket haul for Colts while Prabath Jayasuriya chipped in with two.

Chilaw Marians vs Saracens

Chilaw Marians continued their dominance in the top tier as Oshada Fernando and Sachithra Serasinghe hit centuries on the opening day of their match against Saracens SC played at the SSC grounds in Colombo.

The duo have been the men in form for Chilaw Marians this season as Fernando was dismissed for 112 late in the day, but Serasinghe went on to remain unbeaten on 105* as Chilaw ended the day on 312/5 and will look to make it big come day two. Ashen Silva who hit a century in his previous outing was unfortunate to be dismissed three runs short of a half century.

SLPACC vs SSC

SSC already gained a first innings lead in their match against Ports Authority as they ended the day on 186/3 in reply to SLPA’s 165 all out.

Stars with the ball for SSC were Dasun Shanaka, Jeffrey Vandersay and Sachithra Senanayaka who picked up three wickets apiece, while Kaushal Silva continued his good run of form with an unbeaten 93*.
