Under 23 week 2 produces outright victories for Moors and Ragama

Moors SC and Ragama CC recorded crucial outright wins in the 2nd week matches of the SLC Under 23 Division 1 Tournament 2014 as they triumphed over Moratuwa SC and Navy SC respectively during the weekend. 

Moors vs Moratuwa

Moors SC chased down 193 with 2 wickets in hand in a tense game to beat underdogs Moratuwa SC by 2 wickets in their SLC under 23 division 1 tournament game played at De Zoysa stadium, Moratuwa. 

Resuming from their overnight score of 197 for 7, Moratuwa SC managed only to add another 11 runs to their tally before being bowled out. Kaushalya Gajasinghe’s brilliant spell of 7 wickets for 95 runs wrecked Moratuwa batting line up. Chasing 193 runs to victory, Moors SC lost wickets at regular intervals with left arm spinner Thenuka Dananjaya being the biggest threat taking 3 wickets but the visitors crawled to victory with 2 wickets in hand in the 56th over thanks to a timely and brave unbeaten knock of 30 runs by Thikshila De Silva at the end. Sahan Nanayakkara and Hashan Chamara captured two wickets each for the hosts while Kaushalya Gajasinghe top scored with 35 runs in the middle order. 

Moratuwa (1st inn) – 236 all out in 67 overs: Shanuka Dulaj 65, Hashan Chamara 59, Chirath Mapatuna 3/40, Thikshila De Silva 2/28. 

Moors (1st inn) – 252 all out in 56.5 overs: Shehan Jayasuriya 84, Kaushalya Gajasinghe 52, Sahan Nanayakkara 3/49, Krishan Weerarathna 3/66.

Moratuwa (2nd inn) – 208 all out in 60.4 overs: Deshan Dias 47, Danuka Madushan 38, Kaushalya Gajasinghe 7/95, C De Silva 2/25

Moors (2nd inn) – 193/8 in 55.4 overs: Kaushalya Gajasinghe 35, Thikshila De Silva 30*, Thenuka Danajaya 3/46 Hashan Chamara 2/22, Sahan Nanayakkara 2/57.

  

Ragama vs Navy

Ragama CC finished off their great performance on day 1 and 2 with an innings and 42 runs win over Navy SC in their SLC under 23 division 1 tournament game played at Welisara.

Navy SC was 188 runs behind when the match restarted on day 3. Middle order batsman and former Nalanda skipper Lahiru Jayakody played a resolute innings of 107 but his knock was in vain as wickets fell from the other side handing an easy outright win for the visiting Ragama outfit. Left arm leg spinner, Amila Aponso captured 6 wickets to trouble the Navy batsmen in the 2nd innings. 

Navy (1st inn) – 206 all out in 47 overs: Sameera Sadamal 73, Lahiru Jayakody 40, Tharindu Rukshan 4/46, Lahiru Jayarathna 3/54. 

Ragama (1st inn) – 497 all out in 102 overs:  Jason Perera 118, Lahiru Milantha 161, Supeshara Jayathilaka 71, Lahiry Jayarathne 66, Sameera Sandamal 3/73, Yohan Soysa 2/73.

Navy (2nd inn) – 249 all out in 49.1 overs: Lahiru Jayakody 107, K Peiris 47, Amila Aponso 6/78.  

 

SSC vs Bloomfield

SSC had to be satisfied only with 1st innings points as Bloomfield secured a tame draw in their SLC under 23 division 1 tournament game played at Bloomfield grounds.

The Bloomfield batsmen fared better in the 2nd innings than in the 1st innings as they scored 212 for 8 wickets before declaring the innings and setting a 207 run victory target for SSC in 27 overs. Damith Priyadarshana and Charith Kumarasinghe contributed with 54 and 40 respectively. SSC managed to score 168 runs for the loss of 3 wickets at stumps on day 3. Sri Lanka under 19 member, Minod Bhanuka top scored with a fluent 53 runs knock. 

Bloomfield (1st inn) – 191 all out in 77.2 overs: Gihan Nimsara 67, Kavindu Lakshan 29, Sachin Jayawardena 29*, Dasun Shanaka 3/28, Lakshan Jayasinghe 2/26, Sanka Ramesh 2/48.

SSC (1st inn) – 197 all out in 73.1 overs: Vishwa Wijerathne 69, Sanka Ramesh 48*, Pathum Madusanka 31, Koshan Jayawickerama 6/37.

Bloomfield (2nd inn) – 212/8 declared in 66 overs: Charith Kumarasinghe 40 Damith Priyadharshana 54, Sanka Ramesh 2/35.

SSC (2nd inn) – 168/3 in 27 overs: Minod Banuka 53, Dasun Chanaka 43*.

 

Colts vs Army

Colts CC registered a 41-run first innings win over Army SC as their SLC under 23 division 1 tournament match ended in a draw with visitors taking major honours at Panagoda.

Army SC failed to chase down Colts 1st innings score of 377 as they were dismissed for 336 by Colts triple spin combo of Akhila Dananjaya, Julian De Zilva and Charith Sudaraka. All 3 spinners claimed 3 wickets apiece. Adeesha Thilanchana’s elegant and rebellious century was not enough for the hosts. Sadeera Samarawickrama, Shehan Fernando and Angelo Jayasinghe stroked exciting half-centuries to propel Colts 2nd innings score to 253/6 when the play ended on day 3. 

Colts (1st inn) – 377 all out in 89 overs : Angelo Jayasinghe 64, Sadeera Samarawickrama 63, Bhanuka Rajapakse 42, Dinuk Wickramanayake 36, Sanitha de Mel 35, Anuk Fernando 64*, Nadeesha Sudarshana 5/105, A De Silva 2 for 52.

Army (1st inn) – 336 all out in 111.1 overs : Leo Fransisco 44, Lakshitha Madushan 30, Adeesha Thilanchana 102, Lakshan Edirisinghe 58, Akila Dhananjaya 3/85, Julian De Zilwa 3/57, Charith Sudaraka 3/32.

Colts (2nd inn) – 253/6 in 58.4 overs: Shehan Fernando 65, Sadeera Samarawickrama 71, Angelo Jayasinghe 51.

 

CCC vs SL Ports

CCC recorded a slender 1st innings win over Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club as their SLC under 23 division 1 tournament game ended in a tame draw at CCC grounds. 

Former Josephian, Chathuranga Kumara excelled with both bat and ball for CCC while former Sebastanite skipper Anuk De Alwis was the standout performer for SLPACC as neither team failed to cross 250+ run mark in a low scoring encounter. SLPACC identically scored 234 in both their innings.

SL Ports (1st inn) – 234 all out in 72.5 overs : Lasith Lakshan 46, Prashan Wickramasinghe 88*, Lakshan Rangika 4/91, Chathuranga Kumara 3/35, Thiwanka Kekulawala 2/31.

Tamil Union vs Negombo 

Tamil Union came back strongly on day 3 to make inroads into the fragile Negombo CC lineup but the determined boys from Negombo held on to 1st innings win over the defending champions in their SLC under 23 division 1 tournament match played at P.Sara Stadium.

Tamil Union scored 257 for the loss of 7 wickets in their 2nd innings after being 26 for 2 overnight. Opening batsman Minhaj Jaleel scored 97 runs while 2013/14 Trinity skipper Ron Chandragupta scored 71 fluent runs. Negombo CC chasing 174 in 33 overs to victory were stuttering at 64 for 6 when the game finished on day 3.

Tamil Union (1st inn) – 248 all out in 62.3 overs: Pulina Tharanga 117, Akila Jayasundara 58, Shehan Madusanka 4/61, Nilochana Perera 2/40, Hemantha Jayasundara 2/48.

Negombo (1st inn) – 332 all out in 105.4 overs: Akeel Inham 84, Srihan Anuruddika 75, Sewwinda Silva 68, Malinga Gunaratne 47, Malshan Gunasinghe 25, Pramod Liyanagamage 3/63, Thineth Manishka 3/91.
