S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia and Isipathana College will meter it out for the Under 18 title this evening in the Milo Under 18 Schools All Island cup final this evening at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

S. Thomas’ College have been the impressive side on the books coming in as a less favored team and finally ending up in the top spot. S. Thomas’ who started their campaign early last August, found themselves in a quarterfinal clash against St. Anthony’s College at Bambalapitiya a fortnight ago. Fighting to be in the top four, S. Thomas’ defeated the Antonians form the hills with ease as quarterfinal scores read 19-11 in favor of the Thomians.

Skipper Naveen Henakankanamge and his gallant bunch will be looking to give their best shot at securing the silverware, as it has been a long time since the school by the sea had one of those in their trophy cabinet.

The trophy thirsty Isipathana will have all their eyes fixed on this title when they march into Sugathadasa this evening. Having lost both the league and the knock out trophy earlier this year, a win in this will be a form of satisfaction for the Isipathana fraternity who have been right behind their teams all throughout the season. Isipathana had a hard task of facing defending champions Science College in the quarterfinals and a win in that game saw them meeting Dharmaraja College in the semifinals.

Dharmaraja was the promising team in the segment having defeated Trinity College earlier to meet the Isipathana team but the green army grit was a force that could not be countered by the Rajans. Skipper Sumudu Rankothge’s Isipathana team defeated Dharmaraja 20-14 to book their seat in the finals. Facing S. Thomas’ College will bring in the good old rivalry back and after a long time, a close encounter is expected in the exciting cup final clash. It is a coincidence that the Thomian skipper Naveen Henakankanamge’s father Henakankanamge Sisira was also a Green shirt that had led his team to glory in the yester years.

Also in the other final encounters are the Shield, Bowl and Plate finals that will be played in the afternoon. Trinity College will face Kingswood in the Bowl final and Wesley will take on Science College in the Plate final. Vidyartha College Kandy will meet Thurstan College for the first of the finals that will be the Shield Finals this afternoon.

The final will be live streamed on ThePapare.com courtesy of the S Thomas college ICT society.
