Oman rope in Ruwan Kalpage for T20 World Cup coaching role

Former Sri Lanka all-rounder Ruwan Kalpage has been roped in by Oman as a Consultant Coach for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, which is set to be held in UAE and Oman from 17th of October.

Kalpage, who is currently the Head Coach at Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club in Sri Lanka, will leave the island on Sunday (3rd October) to join the Oman support staff for the 16-team global tournament. Former Sri Lankan captain, Duleep Mendis is the Head Coach of the Oman national cricket team.

With prior international coaching experience with the Bangladesh Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket, Kalpage was also part of the Oman coaching staff during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in 2019.

Oman will also have Kalpage’s expertise for the upcoming two-match T20 series against Sri Lanka on the 7th and 9th of October as the Sultanate of Oman is preparing to host their first major ICC event.

Oman will be competing in Group B during the first round of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 alongside Bangladesh, Scotland and Papua New Guinea.
