Royal Juniors down Joes

The Royal juniors scraped through to wins in both the Under 14 and Under 16 encounters against St Joseph’s College at the Havelock Grounds a short while ago.

The U-14 match did not have the most entertaining of first halves with it ending in a nil-all state. The second half looked to be heading towards the same fate as the first until the Royal juniors were awarded a penalty and slotted in the kick to take a 3-point win.

The under-16 match started off with both teams looking strong and they received strong backup from a large, vocal crowd.

The first half seemed to be heading towards a scoreless end until a sloppy pass, out of nowhere inside the Joes half, was brilliantly intercepted by a Royal player who went onto make a strong run and score right under the posts. The try was successfully converted just before the referee ended the first half with the Royal juniors leading 7-0.

Joes started the second half looking the stronger of the two as they looked determined to equalize. They came very close to doing so as they were just yards away from the opposition try line on a couple of occasions but the Royal juniors stayed strong and defended well, preventing the Joes from getting any points on the board.
