Royal College, Colombo opened their U18 Division I Schools Football Championship 2018 campaign with a thrilling 1-0 against the more fancied Holy Cross College, Kalutara at the Royal College Grounds.

Royal had a miserable last season where they almost got relegated and lost their match against Holy Cross College 5-1. The Royal College Football Committee responded by recruiting one of Sri Lanka’s champion coaches in Mohamed Roomy to change fortunes of Royal College Football.

Holy Cross College had the upper-hand throughout the match against the defense minded Royal College, who were fielding a young side which included three U16 players.

The lads from Reid Avenue relied on counter-attacks and it worked for them in the 27th minute when G.K.Dananjaya scored the only goal of the match.

Royal College Head Coach Mohamed Roomy had this to say;

“I only had a few months with the team and there is still a lot to do with the boys, but I am really happy with the result and how the team responded. There are three players who are still U16 and our goalkeeper is one of them. He was outstanding today. Hoping to build on this in the next few matches.”
