Two games of the Super Provincial four day cricket tournament, organized by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) continued for day two today at Katunayake and Hambanthota.
Colombo vs Galle
The Galle team resumed day two on 321 for 6 with Roshen Silva and Nisala Tharaka at the crease. They started day two pretty well and built a valuable 49-run partnership for the 7th wicket but Tharaka was dismissed by left arm spinner Lasith Ambuldeniya for 20 runs.
Akila Dananjaya joined Roshen Silva and continued to pile on valuable runs as putting on a 61-run partnership for the 8th wicket before Dananjaya ran himself out for 24 runs. Even though Roshen Silva continued to lose partners at the other end, he managed to score his highest score in first class cricket, 231 not out.
Off spinner Dilruwan Perera was the pick of the bowlers for Galle, picking up 3 wickets while Lasith Ambuldeniya and Kavishka Anjula grabbed 2 wickets each. In reply, the lads from Colombo lost both their openers Shehan Jayasuriya and Kaushal Silva for 25 runs.
However, the experienced Lahiru Thirimanne and Dananjaya de Silva built an unbeaten 79 run partnership for the 3rd wicket as Colombo finished day two on 104 runs for 2 wickets. Dananjaya de Silva batted aggressively as his innings of 53 runs off 43 balls came at a strike rate of 123.25.

Dambulla vs Kandy
Dambulla team resumed day two on 382 for 7 and lost overnight batsman Ashan Priyanjan for 156 runs. His knock came off 239 balls and included 18 boundaries. Even though they lost their premier batsman early in the day, Sachithra Senanayaka who is renowned for his off spin showed his batting credentials with a brilliant century.
His blistering innings came off just 109 balls including 11 fours and 4 massive sixes. The Dambulla team was eventually bowled out after scoring a mammoth 480 runs. Two speedsters of the Kandy team, Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara picked up 3 wickets each.
In reply, left handed Tharanga Paranavithana and Mahela Udawatte built a 35 run partnership for the first wicket within 10.4 overs. Then another left handed batsman Charith Asalanka joined Mahela Udawatte and put on a decent 75 run partnership for the second wicket.
Skipper Niroshan Dickwella came to the crease at 110 for 2 and piled on another impressive 76 run partnership with Mahela Udawatte but the latter was unfortunately dismissed for 97 runs. Udawatte’s knock included 11 fours and 1 six.
Niroshan Dickwella played a captain’s knock and remained unbeaten on 55 runs when umpires called stumps on day two. Seamer Lahiru Gamage and off spinner Sachithra Serasinghe picked up one wicket each for Dambulla team.
